But do you know that there are many lifestyle diseases, through which people suffer regularly! But they do not tend to pay attention to them? These lifestyle diseases affect both adults and children badly.

According to the resources, 56.4 million people passed away across the world in 2015, and 68 percent of them were due to diseases that progressed slowly, and often went unnoticed. With the shift in purchasing power and technological advances, people have changed the way they live life. Battling with the professional and personal life challenges, we do not think much about our body which leads to not devoting the required time to our bodies.

Approximately 14.2 million people between the ages of 30-69, have lost their lives from diseases like heart attack, diabetes, and high blood pressure. These life-threatening diseases, if diagnosed at the right time, can be controlled with proper treatment. Let us have a look at some of the life-threatening diseases that can take a toll on our lives.

1.     Obesity

Obesity is a complex disease involving an excessive amount of body fat.  Apart from being a cosmetic concern, it is a medical disease that increases your risk of other diseases and leads to many heart problems, such as, heart disease, diabetes, high blood pressure, and certain cancers. We are all familiar with the word and yet tend to ignore it.

Keeping a regular check on your Body Mass Index (BMI) levels is important. Anybody whose levels are higher than 25, then you are in the obese category. This is mainly due to unhealthy eating habits, stressful lifestyles, reduced physical activity translates to obesity. Obesity also invites other types of lifestyle diseases like breathing issues, blood pressure, cardiovascular diseases, and many others.

2.     Type II Diabetes

Diabetes is a group of diseases that affect insulin production and use. In type I diabetes, the pancreas is not able to produce insulin. In type 2 diabetes, the pancreas does not produce enough insulin, or insulin is not utilized effectively. Type II diabetes can be caused by several factors, including poor diet, lack of exercise, and being overweight. According to the statistics, India has the largest number of patients with type II at 40.9 million.

3.     Brain Stroke

When the blood vessels carrying oxygen to the brain have a blockage leading to an oxygen deficiency in the brain it carries blood to, which results in a Brain Stroke. The regular occurrence of high blood pressure, can lead to a stroke, if not taken care of.

In fact, strokes are the leading cause of long-term disabilities. According to the people who receive treatment within 3 hours of having a stroke are less likely to have disabilities. One can prevent occurrence of strokes by maintaining a healthy lifestyle, and a healthy diet that is low in sodium, avoid smoking, and drink only in moderation, as these activities increase your risk of stroke.

4.     Arteriosclerosis

When blood vessel walls tend to get thick and lose elasticity, it causes blood circulation disorders, chest pain, and heart attacks. It leads to Arteriosclerosis. Obesity, diabetes, and high blood pressure can be the main reason for the occurrence of Arteriosclerosis.

5.     Lower Respiratory Infections

A lower respiratory infection is an infection in your airways and lungs. It can be due to influenza, pneumonia, bronchitis, and tuberculosis. Some of the harmful viruses can cause lower respiratory infections, such as coughing, breathlessness, wheezing. If left untreated can lead to breathing failure and death. Lower respiratory infections can be caused due to poor air quality, smoking, asthma, the flu, and a weak immune system.

6.     Swimmer’s Ear

When you use your headphones regularly, your ears are exposed to loud music, which results in the swimmer’s ear. Swimmer’s ear causes inflammation, irritation, or the outer ear. According to studies, 12.5% approximately have suffered permanent damage to their hearing due to constant noise exposure.

7.     Cancer

Due to the stressful lifestyle, people have stopped or decreased the time that they devote to themselves. As the white blood cells lose their power to fight the viruses that enter our body, it has led to a drastic fall in the immunity of our body. If an irregular cell growth occurs, our immune system often misinterprets these cells and recognizes them as normal cells as they are identical to the normal cells.

Cirrhosis is a late stage of scarring (fibrosis) of the liver caused by many forms of liver disease and conditions, such as hepatitis and chronic alcoholism. Each time your liver is injured – be it by any disease, excessive alcohol consumption, or any other cause, it tries to repair itself. In the process, scar tissue forms. As cirrhosis progresses, more scar tissues are formed, making it difficult for the liver to function (decompensated cirrhosis). Advanced cirrhosis is life-threatening. The liver damage done by cirrhosis generally cannot be undone.

10.  High Blood Pressure

According to statistics, there are approximately 100 million people in India who suffer from high blood pressure. Undue stress, obesity, genetic factors, and unhealthy eating habits are some of the common factors that lead to high blood pressure.  When the reading in the blood pressure machine is 140/90 or higher, your blood pressure is high. High blood pressure may lead to several other severe illnesses.

The Final Takeaway

Medicines continue to get advanced and people are getting educated about the prevention of disease. However, a good approach to lowering your risk of any of these conditions is to live a healthy lifestyle with good nutrition and exercise.
